White gold is an alloy of gold and other white metals that has silver, nickel, platinum and palladium. Same as yellow gold, white gold can also be 18kt, 14kt, 8kt or any karat. An 18kt white gold is 75% gold mixed with 25% other material called silver and palladium. The color of this gold type is white. White gold is actually speaking white; its actual color is grey steel like color that is treated with the metal rhodium which makes the finished white gold to appear white in color. White gold diamond earrings are very well loved by women. Many women prefer the white gold settings, over the yellow gold and silver settings. The white gold settings even compliment many different skin tones, as well the diamonds they set.
Nowadays engagement rings made of white gold have become very popular, because they have a stunning finish and complement any gemstone. This trend started because many couples wanted anything unlike the common yellow gold engagement rings.
If the yellow gold shows tint "after wearing for a while" as it is buffable, exposure to chlorine (such as in a pool etc.) could be partially to blame. Chemicals like that will discolor white gold. Always keep white gold away from chlorine of any form! Environmental and bodily exposure can exaggerate the problem of yellow tinting.
